The New Membership Process

When a member first moves into Twin Pines Cooperative, they will go through the new membership process. This includes being taught the rules, ideals, and traditions of the house before becoming an active member. New membership is an orientation and education process that will help new members become acclimated to their living situation. It is comparable to taking a 3 credit hour class (but way more fun).

At Twin Pines Cooperative, hazing is NEVER tolerated. The members of our house value the individuality of each person, and encourage one another to voice opinions and concerns they may have. We realize that living in a house with 29 girls can be overwhelming for some, but when you are comfortable to speak your mind without fear of judgement, it is a great experience.

While you are at Purdue, your primary purpose is to obtain an education. However, there will be so many opportunities to meet new people and try new things. When you get here, be prepared to study hard and have fun. One of the best parts about Cooperative living is the community we have at Purdue. You can always find someone from a Cooperative House while strolling on campus.

As a new member you will...

  • Attend weekly new member and house meetings

  • Pull wake on the active members of the house

  • Create a new member paddle

  • Attend social events with members of different houses

  • Redesign a room in the house as part of a new member home improvement project

  • Plan and sponsor fundraisers to help raise money for the home improvement project

  • Participate in a community service project

  • Plan and organize a New Member Formal with the theme of your choice

  • Attend scheduled study tables

  • Participate in new member and active walkout

  • Choreograph and perform serenades for the Cooperative New Member Talent Show

  • Pass tests of information about Purdue, Cooperative Housing, and Twin Pines
